Your first case

This is the whole path, once, in order. It takes a real company from the search box to an issued report, and along the way it names every feature you will meet and links to the page that goes deeper on it.

Follow it end to end the first time. Afterwards you will skip most of it: a case that only needs a register extract and a screening is three of these eleven steps.

Practise without spending

If your deployment has the test sandbox switched on, the country select carries a Test sandbox entry at the bottom. Everything works exactly as it does against a real register (search, enrichment, document orders, the ownership walk) and nothing is billed. Searching for iubenda there gives you a real Italian company record with five directors, an eighteen-document catalogue and an ownership chain several levels deep, which is the best thing to learn on. Ask support if you do not see it.

The eleven steps​

  1. Sign in: get past the temporary password.
  2. Search and open a case: the one paid step you cannot avoid.
  3. The case page: what arrived, and what each tab is for.
  4. Read the prescreening: the cheapest thing to read, and what tells you where to spend.
  5. Discover the ownership: walk the chain to the beneficial owners.
  6. Get the documents: order from the register, or upload your own.
  7. Extract what they say: read each document with a schema, and check the evidence.
  8. Work the Fields tab: corroboration, discrepancies, and your own corrections.
  9. Screen the people: watchlists and adverse media.
  10. Issue the report: freeze it, and get the PDF.
  11. What to set up next: configurations and extraction schemas, so the next case starts further along.

Before you begin​

Two things make a first case go much better if you decide them up front.

A configuration, which is the list of facts this kind of file has to establish. You do not need one, because there is a standard set, but a case opened under a configuration knows what it is after, which is what makes the Fields tab useful rather than decorative. See Configurations.

An extraction schema for each kind of document you expect to read, so that ordering a filing and reading it are one step rather than two. See Extraction.

Both are written once and then reused. That is what makes two companies checked a month apart comparable: they were asked the same questions and read with the same schemas.
