Glossary

Adverse media check: a search of news coverage naming a subject, filed by category. Drawn against a monthly allowance. More

Answer: one source's reply to one field. A field can have several; they are all kept and attributed. The strongest becomes the value.

Beneficial owner: an individual whose effective stake in the subject company meets the case's threshold. Only ever an individual.

Case: one company checked. The unit everything else hangs off. More

Claim: what one source said about ownership: a holder, a stake if stated, and whether it is a person or a company. Deliberately weak: it asserts that this source said this, nothing more.

Configuration: the list of facts a kind of file has to establish. A case is opened under one. More

Control basis statement: one sentence, above the report preview and in the report, saying on what basis control of the company was determined, and whether the case could determine it at all.

Corroborated: several independent sources answered a field the same way. A stronger claim than any one of them makes alone.

Correction: answering a field yourself. Outranks every automatic source, and prints in the report as corrected by a reviewer. More

Disputed: two sources answered a field differently. Lifted to a queue at the top of the Fields tab. More

Document type: the key that joins a document to the schema that reads it. Not a label. More

Dossier: the Fields tab: every field the configuration asked for, its value, and every source that answered. More

Effective ownership: a stake computed as the product along a chain. Subject ← A at 50% ← B at 30% puts B at 15%.

Enrichment: the paid registry lookup that opens a case, bringing back company details and legal representatives.

Evidence viewer: the panel on the Extract tab showing each extracted value beside the page it was read from, with the passage marked. More

Extraction: reading one document with the schema its type points at. Paid, billed by pages.

Extraction schema: what to pull out of one kind of document. One per document type, and every document of that type is read with it. More

Field: a question the case has to answer. Not a place to look: every field is offered to every source. More

Field research: a paid online pass that asks a model the case's own configured questions, by name, and answers with per-field links. More

Frontier node: a company the ownership walk found and did not fetch. It carries an Expand pill with its price.

Issuing: freezing the report's whole input, so the document can be attached to a decision. More

Manual case: a case whose company was entered by hand because no register answers for it. An ordinary case in every other respect. More

Match: one result from a watchlist screening. A match is not a hit. It is a candidate for review.

Materiality threshold: how small a stake stops being worth following in the ownership walk. Twenty-five percent is the usual default. More

Ownership budget: how much an ownership walk may spend on its own. It never blocks a manual expansion.

Ownership walk: traversing the shareholder chain, one paid registry lookup per company. More

Prescreening: a model's online pass over the company, producing a report with sources. Establishes nothing; tells you where to spend. More

Resolution: a recorded judgement about a disagreement: accepted, not a difference, or open. Not a correction. More

Snapshot: a copy of something as it was, kept so it cannot change underneath a case. A case snapshots the configuration's fields; an extraction snapshots the schema; an issued report snapshots everything.

Stale resolution: a judgement made against answers that have since changed. The field returns to the queue marked sources have changed, carrying what was decided before.

Subject: anyone a screening is asked about: the company, a current director, or a beneficial owner.
